The Powell community was first settled around 1801, two years before Ohio became a state. In the 2010 census, the population was listed at 11,500. The town of Powell had its start in the building of the railroad through that territory, which is still there today. Throughout Powell’s long history, it has since added great attractions and places to visit like: The Columbus Zoo, Olentangy Indian Caverns and the iconic O’Shaughnessy Dam.
